See You Yesterday: A Book Review

 

In See You Yesterday, by Rachel Lynn Solomon college freshman Barrett Bloom is ready for a fresh start! Especially after her nightmare senior year of high school where an article for the school newspaper sent her life downhill. Barrett is convinced that despite her miserable final days of high school, college was going to be better.

Unfortunately for her, things seem to take a turn for the worst when her ex-best friend Lucie becomes her college roommate. But Lucie is willing to try to make amends by inviting Barrett to a frat party. Barrett had long dreamed for an invitation like this, so she decides to go. But even a party seemed to be bad luck because when she tried to leave Barrett accidentally set the house on fire! Humiliated and afraid, Barrett flees back to her school only to discover that Lucie locked her out of their dorm. That night, Barrett has a miserable sleep on the common room couch and hopes her next day is better.

The next morning Barrett wakes up on the exact same day again! And the again the morning after that, and after that. Finally, she goes to ask Miles, a reserved, studious boy in her physics class for help and learns that he is also stuck in a time loop. Barrett and Miles must put aside their differences to solve the mystery of the loop. As they work, the two enemies slowly come to trust each other more and eventually sparks fly and a friendship becomes something more.
