This week at 3 Gaits I got a solo lesson! Despite the cold we made the most of the empty arena and did the most trotting I have ever done!
The first exercise was just practicing transitioning from a walk, a trot, and back down to a walk. Lucky for me, Berry really enjoys trotting, so it wasn't hard to get her going.
Mom wasn't able to get a video of my two laps of trotting around the arena off lead, but the next two clips are of me doing some patterns at the trot.
This first pattern was trotting a figure 8 around the entire arena. Berry isn't a fan of corners, so keeping her going past them wasn't easy, but I didn't let her stop trotting until I said so.
This pattern was trotting 2 circles on either side of the arena in each direction. I had to keep Berry going and steer a lot at the same time!
This lesson was definitely a highlight one! It was a lot of hard work, but I loved every minute of it! My instructor Marsue said if she hadn't trusted me to keep control over Berry, she wouldn't have let me trot so much. I'm proud of how far I've come!
After all her hard work out in the cold, Berry earned her apple.
